Our Shepherd Huts

Welcome to Bruntmoor

My family have lived here at Bruntmoor for over 45 years and in that time we have seen many changes to the farming landscape. Our plan was always to create a haven for wildlife, so when we acquired the field where our huts now stand, we endeavoured to transform it into a wildflower meadow. Twenty years on, the field is now home to many native species, which during the summer months creates a spectacular display of biodiversity.

The origins of the Shepherd's Hut date back to the early 16th Century. Made of wood or tin, with a curved corrugated iron roof, a stove, stable door and cast iron wheels, this was the living accommodation for the shepherd to tend his flock away from the main farmstead. Today, it’s romantic, relaxing and a more rustic way to holiday.

Our two traditional Shepherd’s Huts - Curlew and Starling, are the perfect hideaway to escape and unwind, surrounded by beautiful Peak District scenery. Located in the very heart of the Derbyshire Dales, Bruntmoor Shepherd Huts are situated near to the breath-taking river valleys of Lathkill Dale, Dovedale and the Manifold Valley, with the Tissington Trail just a short hop from your doorstep, in the very heart of the Peak District National Park, the first to be established in the UK in 1952.

We are surrounded by hills, dales and trails, with numerous footpaths abound, radiating in all directions within a stones throw, making it an ideal location for walking and cycling, our Shepherd Huts are ideally suited to couples or solo travellers, looking to relax and escape the bustle of everyday life, with nature on the doorstep.
